This is the place I will judge all other Mexican places against. Holy Hell this place is great! Here's the skinny: Simple and Clean Place, Big Windows The Food is Awesome, Pricing is Average. Everything came out fast and HOT. Here's the fat: I like the fact that it's simple and I really like the big windows and the bar stools facing those windows. I plopped right down and ate while looking at 159th.. A-OK. Picture - yelp.com/biz_photos/el-f… It also has some outdoor seating, only two tables though. More in summer maybe? Picture - yelp.com/biz_photos/el-f… Unless you can win an eating contest with one hand tied behind your back and without undoing the top button of your jeans, just get the junior burrito... the regular is Ginormous! Picture - yelp.com/biz_photos/el-f… I had the Beef Burrito, it was tasty as hell! didn't fall apart and there was like ZERO greasiness like a lot of other burrito places I've been to. Good mix of veggies were in there too but, the beef was definitely on the forefront of it. The Rice was good, fluffy and just the right amount of seasoning and tomato to it. I had the Churro... Oh. My. God. Cinnamon Sugar Delight is all I can say... Picture - yelp.com/biz_photos/el-f… Service was super fast and friendly. I got my meal in less than 5 minutes I think... or damn close to it. Everything was hot and fresh too. I like this place, I'm going back... simple as that. SYOY

I've always been an El Famous fan. This location is better than the divvy northside ones I've been to. I think it's family owned (the cashiers were bickering a little--- mother and teenage son it seemed; it wasn't disruptive) There is a TV. It's clean. Food isn't super speedy, but that's fine b/c it's fresh. Churros weren't very soft. The nachos are a big size. Burritos are huge. Sopa was oily, but delicious. The beans and rice have a lot of onions (sad b/c I'm allergic). Price is right. Outdoor seating in front is a nice touch. Because it's the corner of the strip mall, you of course hear the traffic, but it's shaded, there is a tree and grass.... it was enjoyable for a summer afternoon.

Food is not as good as it used to be. Ordered beef tacos and beef nachos. The seasoning in the beef tasted as if scorched the last few times I went there. Shame, this used by one of my favorite places to eat.

My whole family loves El Famous. This is a rarity. They are very nice and will make whatever you want. My kids want just beans and avocados most of the time and I want chicken tacos with just onion and cilantro. They don't mind our goofy orders and have never gotten it wrong. The chicken is always moist and delish. Avos are fresh and my kids love their beans. My significant other likes the pork tacos. It is quick and affordable for us to go whenever we don't feel like cooking.

They are missing a star because they need to improve on their ground beef. I had two steak tacos and one ground beef. They were able to impress me on a taco Tuesday when I could have been at any Mexican restaurant and ate tacos like a pig. They season the meat and have speedy service spite their high demand. I approve thus far. ..steak nachos you're next!

Na-cho Average Tacos! If ya want the best tacos in Tinley but ya don't wanna make a whole damn dinner process out of it with unlimited, recycled, stale tortilla chips & frozen, margarita calorie bombs & ya def don't wanna cross the border & go to Taco Hell, then go grab a taco at El Famous Burrito in Tinley Park, IL, a SW burb o'Chicago. Yeah, it purports to be famous for its football size burritos." Do I eat these mondo btos? Um no, cuz I don't care for such monstrosity in one sitting or maybe it's cuz I'm loco! But don't mind my loconess, order one! El Famous doesn't just sell grande, famous burritos, it also sells my fave tacos in town! There are lotsa taco options to choose from: chicken, beef, steak, pork, breaded steak, chorizo & egg, chile reyeno, and if you're feelin' mouthy get a lengua taco. My fave is the chicken tacos which is marinated, shredded chicken; shredded lettuce; shredded white, Mexican cheese & diced tomatoes. Everything in the taco is muy fresh & the pollo is nice & flavorful & everything is laid inside 2 soft, thin corn tortilla shells. The shells are the perfect size, not too big & are packed full o'taco gemminess. Add some red & green hot sauce from the squeeze bottles if ya wanna light a fire in your mouth! I've only cruised through Mexico a couple times & I'm not an expert on authentic, Mexican tacos but I'm pretty sure these tacos are as close & as you're gonna get around Tinley/Orland Park. Want mas? El Famous also sells tortas, taco salads, sopes, rice & beans, nachos, tamales, and even burgers & hot dogs just in case ya get a hankerin' for some good ole-fashioned Americana food at a fast-Mexican joint! There's a menu for the ninos, combo deals, specials, and prices at EFB seem reasonable for the quality, $2.25 for uno pollo taco. I do heart the french fries, um I mean papas fritas at EFB. For $1.75 you get a grease-stained, brown-paper bag filled to the top with pipin' hot, thin, crispy fritas. Yeah, def spring for the fries, ya get a football size amount o'these golden guys! Finally, ya must ask for a complimentary cup o'spicy carrots & jalepenos, my fave accessory to my Mexican meal. These spicy, pickled gems are crunchy & muy caliente!! There are several EFB locations throughout Chicagoland but the one I go to & am reviewing is located in an odd, small strip mall next to Jerk Choice (not a dating service lol), Firestone, Dairy Queen, etc. off of 159th & Harlem Ave in Tinley Park. EFB tastes betta late night & sells famous burritos but it's not el famous for havin' a stellar interior & not conducive for date night nor for stayin' & eatin' a muy long time. It's super clean but muy pequeño with a few tables & bar stools/counter seating along the window. Also, don't plan on takin' off your North Face coat & gettin' comfy if ya dine-in cuz it's always muy frÃo in EFB in the winter time, so carry-out or eat muy fast! EFB is counter-ordering, friendly & food is made fresh & fairly fast. If there seems to be a language barrier when ordering, ya can always point at the picture of want ya want on the illustrated menu that's hung on the wall. EFB is also one of the only late-night, fast-food joints I will go to aside from White Castle around these parts that stays open late & I believe EFB is even open on almost all major hoildays. When the bars close, EFB can get muy busy cuz everyone agrees after muchas cervezas ya need some quick, hot Mexican so ya will sleep nice & sound! So whether it's noon & ya need a quick, gemmy Mexican lunch or 2AM & you're not cravin' White Castle, I recommend stoppin' by El Famous & gettin' a famous burrito or my fave "the almost famous tacos," some spicy carrots & jalepenos & a big bag o'fries! Good little place. Reasonable, fast and nearby. Thought the rice and beans could have a bit more flavor and seasoning. Steak torta was spot on. I like both red and green sauces. Peppers and carrots are good as well. Been meaning to try the fish tacos but haven't worked up the nerve.

Used to be my favorite burrito joint and the last two visits were disappointing. Lots of fat on my steak, portions smaller, prices went up and the girl at the register is always rushing us ( and we aren't slow but any hesitation in your order, she gets "huffy") Not sure I will return as there are many other burrito joints in the area that are better. Sad as this really was my go to for many years

Consumer Review ..
We used to come to El Famous Burrito years ago, typically late at night during the weekends. Back then, they had tasty food. Unfortunately, after a couple of recent visits, we will not be returning. The food quality has dropped substantially to the point that virtually any local competing fast food will provide you with better tasting and fresher offerings. That said, stay especially away from their fajita burrito. It went in the garbage after the first bite. The steak in the burrito was marinated in a dark, foul maroon sauce that tasted terrible. The burrito was literally dripping with this sauce, reminiscent of beef chili dumped onto a tortilla. The green peppers and onions typical of fajitas were found at the bottom of the burrito, not evenly distributed within the wrap. Next to the fajita vegetables was a cold lump of sour cream. Does the cook have 3 fingers on each hand to have achieved such a mess of a burrito? Simply poor quality food and no preparatory effort from the cook. I think the Owners have gotten too comfortable with their business over years and are not placing attention to what is coming out of their kitchen. Try Taco Bell instead, which is a couple of notches better in taste and food quality.

Great place to go at night for some hearty burritos filled with goodies. Steak and chicken burritos are the best when it's late at night and you need to stuff your face with something delicious. Chips are always fresh and fried for each order. Salsa is a bit spicy, but I can't complain. Clean atmosphere and weird people at night. Employees are nice and weird at the same time.haha.

Left 1 star because there wasn't anything less! Ordered 2 jr. ground beef burritos, drive all the way home and got 2 jr. chewy leathery steak burritos. Knife wouldn't even cut through. Call to complain for a credit for our next visit. Nope we have to bring the burritos back to receive our credit. Really????? Well, guess what not going back...EVER. Lost a customer over $6. Ridiculous.....Good luck you'll need it.

Awful!!! We got a late night takeout this week. Kept it basic and got 2 steak burritos and containers of rice and beans on the side. Steak burritos were supposed to include cheese, beans, lettuce and tomato. Lots of hard grizzled inedible (steak?) pieces and chunks of pure fat. Wilted slimy old lettuce throughout. Finally hit some diced tomato near the end. Never saw or tasted an once of cheese whatsoever. Ended up with a bunch of spit out meat pieces on the plate with globs of mush and just ate the tortilla wrap like a piece of bread, just cuz we were hungry. I remember when these almost football sized burrito places first opened in the south/southwest suburbs over 20 years ago. They were the rave and they were great! Prices haven't changed much and now I know why. This is a stretch with them calling this meat and their produce has to be old and purchased discounted. Tortillas are cheap and that hasn't really changed. Make your own burritos, you really couldn't do worse! Oh, and never trust their late night hours. They just leave, I suppose, if they deem it a slow night.

This place is great. Clean, good prices and their tacos are awesome. I had the steak and tongue tacos. Their guacamole is nice and chunky with real avocado not that liquid stuff they make with sour cream to stretch it out. Definitely worth the trip.

So disappointed. This used to be one of my favorite Mexican joints, but unfortunately I now only enjoy it late at night on my way home from the bars. I went in tonight and asked for extra carrots when I ordered. Even offered to pay for them if need be. She said she could give me 3 instead of two, and I said great! Thanks!! When I went to pick up my food I had to argue w her for the third. Again, I offered to pay, and she said it was all good. And the foil packets I got had like 1 carrot each. Really El Famous? Thanks. But no thanks. Burrito Jalisco here I come!

I have been going here since the late 80s but hadnt been back until today for lunch. I decided to rock it old school for lunch. Burrito was still huge and the hot sauce still hot. The prices were higher than I remembered and the mexican music was loud. Food was really good. This is one of the original burrito joints in our area.

If it's after midnight and you're hungry, this is it - your area food oasis. I find the food a bit bland and the salsas too hot, but it's not bad and the service is fast. I didn't like the "zopes" masa - too thick and not fried greasy enough. The horchata here is good and they have delicious churros, but only have them sometimes. The fish they use for their tacos, burritos and tortas is really delicious - fried fresh to order and thin and very crispy, almost like a breaded steak. Their prices for add-ons and extras run high, almost a dollar extra for guac, cheese, sour cream, etc. Also some of their other prices don't make sense to me, like a nachos and a drink combo for $7. And the nachos looked like that weird presentation where it's like individually topped nachos, which is one of the weirdest things ever to me. Anyway, the price and the pic kept me from trying those. Still this place is awesome for the late night hours it keeps - open til 1 a.m. everyday and til 3 a.m. on the weekends.

It is 2am as you stumble out of Teehans, Holsteins or (gulp) Dendrunkos. Where do you head? El Famous of course! The food is pretty consistent and fills you up pretty in the wee hours of the morning. I have not really been there during daylight hours but I can't imagine it changes much. Perhaps the other customers are slightly less comical than the fall-down-drunkards you normally see there. My only true issue with El Famous is that, on occasion, they have been extremely slow. And when I'm drunk and hungry, I want my food fast.

Fish tacos as late as 2 a.m. on the weekend? Yeah, buddy. Fish fried hard too. This is the spot. Not to mention that flat screen TV by the door playing odd shows like repeats of "Larry King Live" or some digital music channel rocking out downhome blues. For a southwest suburban strip mall joint this place is a rarity. The chicken tacos also are worthy of tasting. And so are the shrimp tacos. They may be "famous" for burritos but tacos are king to me. One (major) problem: The Horchata. For this gentleman, horchata is an essential part of Mexican not-so-fine dining and the horchata here is lacking. Uh, why does it consistently taste like Dawn dishwater? Yeah, I like horchata that much I had it bad several times just to be sure. The people inside are cool. And they've got churros. Just wish they didn't wash the container out so much or maybe rinse it out better.

Wow only 2 reviews for the most amazing burrito stand. First, let me say I moved away from Tinley Park years ago and now I live in San Diego which is extremely over populated with taco stands and Mexican restaurants. San Diego has Carna Asada translation Steak but I guess there might be some kind of magic seasoning in Carna Asada. Enough with that onto El Famous which is still my favorite burrito place on earth. First, I enjoy the white cheese. Second, the tiny little green and red sauces that come with it. Third, it has beans in it damn San Diego burritos only have Carna Asada and guac. Finally, I can never finish the whole thing which is great because after a night of drinking you can consume a burrito and have a good chuck left over for the morning after. Muy bien El Famous muy bien!

The El Famous that saved Orland/Tinley from the burrito drought that preceded its establishment. Consistent quality for over ten years, and the place that responded when I wondered why I couldn't get tacos and fries at the same time. Burritos, tacos, tortas, all the classics, and a few American choices like burgers, etc. They also serve Mexican breakfast (huevos rancheros, huevos and chorizo, etc.) all day long. The horchata is the best you're likely to come across in the area, but falls short of my favorite places in the city. The counter staff have always been super friendly, despite long hours and asshole clientele. The chicken tacos/burritos are outstanding, the chicken is cooked in a spicy red broth, so it's flavorful and juicy, not bland and dry like it can be at other places. The pastor is also very good, while not prepared in the traditional manner. My vegetarian sister gets the chile relleno torta and doesn't feel left out of the fun. Formerly only available during the summer, but I believe now served all year 'round are those dearest to my heart, shrimp tacos. Fresh, larger-than-you-would-ever-expect, grilled shrimp melting the cheese under the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, and fusing the whole thing to the tortillas. A good squirt of the green salsa from the bottles they keep in a bucket of ice on the counter, and it's what summer should taste like.

The first time I went here I wasn't too impressed. Wow, another taco place. But after coming here for a while, I've grown to love it. The staff is super nice and the service is quick for being so fresh tasting. I love getting the chicken tacos with the spicy red taco sauce. I've gotten the burrito a couple times and it was way too big for me so the other night I downsized to a junior burrito and it was just the right size. I also love their fries. Weird, right? I go into a Mexican restaurant and order fries. But they're better than any other place I've been. I'm definitely a life long customer. Well, as long as I still live here.

Very good food. Ok, ok! We tried the steak hard shell tacos. And while they are lacking in cheese (very little of it) the steak is very flavorful and tender. Their rice is good as well as their beans. My co-eaters had soft shell tacos - and burritos. They all enjoyed, though one of them thought the chicken was a little too spicy. The staff is very nice and the place is very, very clean - which is a serious issue with other establishment. Will return again.

As far as taco/burrito places go this one is as good as any I've had. I've been eating here since the late 80's and love it. I try to get back there as often as possible. I have never had a bad meal here and would recommend everything especially the beef nachos, but the two things I love most about El Famous are the fresh chips and the green hot sauce. How many burrito joints make hot fresh chips. If you go on the weekdays they have $1.25 tacos too. You can't best that! Enjoy

Overpriced, cant even call it mexican food. Appreciated the food wasn't over salty to compensate for taste which is why they got 2 stars. .. other than that, won't ever come back!

I had never had a torta until I ate here a few years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. I have branched out to other menu options - their burritos and taco salads are great and massive in size, though I was glad to see they added a "mini" size burrito if you want a snack instead of a football sized meal. The staff is pretty friendly, and I imagine that is hard to do after waiting on drunks until all hours of the morning. I have always been tempted to buy one of the oddly flavored ice cream treats they keep in the cooler, and love the labels on their bottled water.

Well, there is better Mexican nearby, but for late night food in the area, this is the place. It always hits the spot for me. The food has decent flavor and the prices are good. I also go here when I want a break from the couple other Mexican places near by.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Honestly, as a person if mexican descent, this is pretty close to authentic. The atmosphere, taste and prices are on par with the city joints. Got a jr burrito platter and a Sopé and torta with 2 drinks, for me and the wife, and spent 18.85. Not a bad deal considering i eat like a giant and got filled up before i finished the torta. Portions are pretty big. Sopé was nice and crunchy how it's SUPPOSED to be. Not soggy at all. Crunchy= authentic. Salsa was amazing! Almost downed half the bottle drowning our food in it. Definitely hits the spot. Next time i get hungover im headed here again.

Sad as this really was my go to for many years

I was raised on this yummy-ness! I've found some better food around the area, but El Famous Burrito is pretty darn good! On Tuesday's they have $2 tacos!!

Favorite place for tacos everything is so fresh and delicious! Absolutely love the hot sauce and the little carrots they give you with your order. And you can't beat their weekly specials of $1.25 tacos!

$1.00 tacos are now $1.25

Well, there is better Mexican nearby, but for late night food in the area, this is the place. It always hits the spot for me. The food has decent flavor and the prices are good. I also go here when I want a break from the couple other Mexican places near by.
